Welcome to Fort Valley 4-H Fire and Rescue Club!!!

Serving our Community Through Public Service and Hard Work

How This Club Came To Be

Fort Valley 4-H Fire and Rescue Club was started in May of 2006, when the state of Virginia said that in order to be junior fire fighter member, the junior member had to be at least 16 years of age. So, Leslie Funkhouser, 4-H Project Associate who worked for the Virginia Cooperative Extension office in Woodstock, VA, suggested that each fire department create their own 4-H group, so that kids as young as 13 can still participate in trainings, dinners, parades, etc. She came to our fire department meeting and talked to us about the different ways we could start a group.

I was interested in becoming a leader, not only because I was a parent of daughters who wanted to participate, but because when I was their age, I wanted to be a part of the fire department and help my community as well.

Right now, we have six members and five leaders. This is a great group of kids that you will learn more about on the Members page. You will see the things we do, and some of what we plan to do in the near future on the other pages.

Thanks for stopping by our Web-site, and feel free to contact me if you have any questions, problems, or concerns with this site.

Thank you,

Wendy

Find Out Who Your Friends Are

Tracy Lawrence has hit the nail on the head with this song. You find out who your friends are when times get tough and your true friends come running to help you! The same is true for the fire department and the 4-H. When you need help, someone is there to help you.
